Ambiguity, not mood, is the passive-aggressive boss problem

- Original title :: How to Deal With a Passive-Aggressive Toxic Boss
A one-minute reframe: the passive-aggressive boss is not the problem, the ambiguity they inject into the system is. Stop interpreting mood; move the work into explicit artifacts, and the response to that clarity tells you which problem you actually have.
Ambiguity as a private veto
"Fine" becomes a veto held in reserve. Silence becomes "I had concerns" after the fact. "Do your best" becomes grounds for punishment once the outcome is known. Trying to read the boss's mood — "like you're debugging a haunted server" — keeps the team stuck in politics.
Move the work into artifacts
Written decisions, named owners, deadlines for objections, acceptance criteria, versioned scope. Named owners and objection deadlines close off hidden vetoes; acceptance criteria and versioned scope block retroactive criticism.
Clarity is the diagnostic
If they welcome the clarity, they are probably just overloaded. If they resist it, this was never a communication problem — it is a governance problem, and needs leadership support rather than better tone-reading.
